Brisbane Fishing Trips

Aug 2 , 2011

Brisbane has many attractions, but Brisbane fishing is a definite lure for devoted anglers. The area is a fisherman's paradise all year 'round, with shore fishing and boat excursions yielding various fish species, depending on where you cast your line and the season in which you visit.

Brisbane River Wall

You'll find the locals fishing by the Brisbane River Wall because it's such a popular spot for Brisbane fishing. Check out the Pinkenba launch ramp downstream or seek out the distinctive a rock wall covered with oysters, as both area ideal casting-off points. Venture out on summer nights for Brisbane fishing in this area if you're after black bream.

Deception Bay

Deception Bay is a good Brisbane fishing spot if you visit in the winter because you can haul in tailor. In the summer, you'll probably have more luck with flathead and whiting. You may also get a haul of snapper, sweetlip, and bream fishing by the bay.

Bribie Island

Birbie Island makes the perfect Brisbane fishing spot for family outings because the fish are almost always biting.  You are especially likely to catch whiting and jewfish in this area.

Pumicestone Passage

Stake out a spot under the Bribie Bridge if you visit this area for Brisbane fishing in the winter and you'll be rewarded with jewfish and cod. If you're feeling more adventurous, hop about a boat out to search for tailor and bream during the winter or flathead and whiting if you prefer to fish in the summertime.

Peel Island

Peel Island is home to the biggest coral reef in Morton Bay,. This distinction makes it a prime Brisbane fishing spot for ambitious anglers seeking out snapper, parrotfish, and sweetlip.

Moreton Bay

Moreton Bay is a hot Brisbane fishing spot because of its native whiting, flathead, and tailor and several migratory species like mackerel and tuna. You can do your Brisbane fishing from the beach or on a boat in the big, deep channels between the Moreton Bay islands at the mainland. Head toward the reefs for snapper, parrotfish, cod, and cobia.

Moreton Island

Check out the surf beaches for Brisbane fishing in the winter months and you'll find a bonanza of tailor and bream. Charter a boat if you want to venture beyond the sand to trawl for a more adventurous catch of yellowtail kingfish and bluefin tuna.

Cape Moreton

If you're a game fisherman, Cape Morton is your spot to potentially haul in “the big one” while you're in Brisbane fishing.  Be on the lookout for sailfish, wahoo, Spanish mackerel, and black marlin. Find a charter boat with a savvy captain who can take you to call the best spots.

Lake Somerset

Do your Brisbane fishing at Lake Somerset if you want a well-stocked spot full of cod, perch, bass, and yellowbelly. The lake has no restrictions on the types of boats fishermen may use.

Lake Maroon

Lake Maroon is a great spot for Brisbane fishing and also for a wide variety of water sports. Anglers can send their families go paddle boating or parasailing while they fish for the stocked perch or Australian bass in these productive waters.

For another great outdoor activity spot, check out Brisbane Southbank.
